52 Weeks of Colour- Shuttle Grey (aka My Pieces of Sunshine)

Week 18

It was fitting that this week's colour was grey, its been a grey kind of weekend for me. Lots of ups and downs in RL and SL, lots of tears and not enough smiles and all together one of those times when you get really close to throwing in the towel and calling it quits.

Then last night while cleaning inventory I saw something that caught my eye, it was this potted flower called "Little Piece of Sunshine" I picked it up at the Kawaii Fair and had forgotten about it. Its not much just a simple potted flower, but the reason it caught my eye was because it reminded me that instead of focusing on all the grey I needed to dust myself off, wipe my tears away start focusing on the pieces of sunshines in my life.

There is a reason my daddy calls me his sunshine and I need to keep thinking sunshine thoughts and remember that I have alot to smile about.

My song to my pieces of sunshines:

My Speech for the L.L.L Fair

Joshua
My heart, Joshua David.

Autism is not something that disables a person...its something that allows someone to see the world in a different light.  I am lucky to know someone that shares the way they see the world with me everyday. My nephew entered the world on May 22, 2005 and five short months later my parents and I became his guardians and our lives changed so much. He was the perfect baby in every way always happy and full of laughter. I balanced being a full time college student, working full time and being a new parent. I read all the parent books, articles, found the best pediatrician, determined to do everything right for him. He was such a smart baby, wise beyond his years, always quiet seeming to be always deep in thought. We cherished all his firsts, rolling over, sitting up, crawling and his first words. I always knew my baby was unique, he didn't say mama or dada like other babies, no my heart's first words were check and jet. Every time we drove around and he spotted a Verizon ad or truck he would light up and say "check!" and anything that flew in the sky was a "jet".

As time went by I noticed little things that I just attributed to his uniqueness. My heart loved lines, and things to be straight, all his toys had to line up every so perfectly in neat little rows. Whenever he did something that concerned me like turning one and he was still not walking everyone was quick to just say "he's a boy" or "he'll catch up". As months went by I started to blame myself I just knew I was doing something wrong. I was somehow failing my child in some way. He had stopped talking, didn't show any interest in walking, all he wanted was his toys and his neat perfect lines.

I felt so alone and everywhere I turned people made me feel ignorant, that I was just worrying too much, even his pediatrician at the time told me to give it time. In my heart I knew time was not the answer, I looked at my little boy with his big brown eyes who stared back at me and with his eyes he assured me that I was not wrong. So I began searching for answers, and whenever someone told me no, or turned me away I kept going. Within a few months time I was able to get hims evaluated and he started receiving Early Intervention Services, we was a trained therapist who visited our home every day and worked with him. That is when i realized how special he truly is. There was nothing wrong with him, it was us that needed to learn how to see his world through his eyes.

One day his therapist Erin, gave me the link to the Autism Speaks website, she told me "I can't really tell you he is on the autism spectrum until he's completely evaluated, but I think in your heart you know the answer". So looked it up and signed up for my first meeting of a local chapter. To sit in a room full of people who understand how you are feeling was a beautiful thing. I no longer felt alone, or that I was a failure. I felt safe talking, asking questions, reaching our for advice and getting real answers.

In the meantime Joshua flourished, he was like a sponge absorbing all information given to him, and finally at twenty four months he started talking again and he hasn't stopped since.  No words can described the that feeling you get hearing your child say "I love you" when those were words you never thought you would ever hear. I still get emotional over everything new that he learns, I celebrate every achievement, and when he's not looking I even laugh when he pranks me. He's the light in my life I am so thankful he's in my life and that he has taught me to see the world through his eyes. To see the simple things that everyone takes for granted, to get excited over the little things because those little things are whats truly important in life. He's taught me to never give up, and when society sets a goal for you, aim higher and show them what you can really do.

When I found out that the Live.Laugh.Love fair would be benefiting the charity Autism Speaks, I was overjoyed because this charity helps so many families and their children. They offer information, support, and have created an extended family for everyone touched by autism. I am so grateful to them and all that they do and personally want to thank all of you for coming out and support this fair, for donating your time and money for such a great cause. Thank you.

Live.Laugh.Love Fair

The Live.Laugh.Love Fair officially opens tomorrow but bloggers were able to get a sneak peek today. The L.L.L Fair is in its second year and was started with the idea of the Family community in Second life all joining together to raise money for a charity. Last year the fair raised money for the My Stuff Bags Foundation and it was a huge success. This year the fair has chosen a charity very close to my heart, which is Autism Speaks.

This charity means so much to me, it was one of the first organizations that I turned to for support and information when we found out my nephew was autistic. They offered support, comfort, information, helped to educate my family and let us know we were not alone. I am so grateful to them and I am proud to support them in RL and SL to help other families and their children.

I encourage you all to come out tomorrow and check out the L.L.L fair and the events they will be holding throughout the next two weeks.

Me & My Camera

Me and my Camera

I love to take pictures, its a way for me to express feelings that I cant put into words. I think for many people that is true, you see the pictures on plurk or flickr, happy ones, sad, angry. Its sometimes easier to snap a shot to capture your mood and show everyone then to write something out.

The last few days have been picture days for me, been dealing with too many feelings both in RL and SL so I snap pictures, I snap pictures to capture my sadness, my confusion and my general feelings of just being unsure. It comforts me to just be able to find a quiet place, think and just take a picture. Sometimes I share the pictures other times I don't I just neatly file them away in my personal journal of sorts.

This camera pose set was made by Giggle[box] and will be available at the Live.Laugh.Love fair, with 100% of the proceeds going to Autism Speaks. So make sure you grab this pose set and take some pictures!

52 Weeks of Color- Bright Turquoise

Week 17
Visiting Spirit at Saddle Club

It took me a bit longer then usual to put together an outfit for this weeks color. I had so many ideas but had a hard time narrowing them down and trying to decide on a look. Then yesterday Pose Fair opened and I saw someone advertise this beautiful mesh horse and I knew I had to take a picture with it.

I love horses and for quite awhile now I have been attending Saddle Club run by Meg Hadlee, its a wonderful role play club for Secondlife children of all ages to learn how to care for horses and learn to ride. Ms. Meg started us with the basics, safety rules, how to care for our horses to keep them safe, clean and happy. She makes sure we wear our helmets, are always safe and have tons of fun.

This amazing pose prop was made by Captivity Co. Poses and its mesh! The horse's coat, tail and mane change to many different textures so your options are plentiful. It has five different poses which are adjustable and I was able to use all five as a child avatar, just add a stool for the standing ones and you are good to go.

Feel free to visit Saddle Club and touch the subscriber to find out when classes will be starting up again and Happy Shopping!

Bay City Fashion Week

Fashion Week 1
Entrance

I took a short trip today to Bay City to check out their upcoming Fashion Week. If you have never been to Bay City you need to check it out. Its a fun place to explore and you always find the most interesting builds, stores and fun things to do.

Statements from the Bay City welcome basket:

The following two statements were presented on the Second Life blog, and describe the "theme" of the area:

"We hope that the Residents of this new city will produce interesting and attractive structures, in styles appropriate to the period 1930 to 1960 when most of our buildings were erected. In any case, the Residents of Bay City will form a unique and bustling community."

and

"The style is the American urban experience, between 1940 and 1965, perhaps best typified by Chicago circa 1950 and marked by a distinct deco influence."

Their Fashion Week runs from April 15th-22nd and when you land you are greeted by an area setup with information about Bay City as well as helpful guides and maps.
Fashion Week 2

I then started exploring because of course I need to SHOP while I am here! There were many stores a few familiar ones and several I had never heard of which made it even more exciting. I love learning about new stores and finding things that work for kids.

I bought a few items and will definitely come back before the events ends to bring my parents to see it and explore some more :)

Speaking Whale

One of my favorite movies is "Finding Nemo" I have watched it over fifty times and know most of it by heart. My favorite scene in the movie is when Dory speaks whale.

It got me to thinking that maybe I too can speak whale, and I just dont know it yet. So I grabbed my best friend Kenzie, a couple of juice-boxes and some goldfish crackers and we set out to find some whales. After quite of bit of traveling we found the perfect spot to whale watch.

So we settled down on the dock and waited, waited and waited some more. Finally there they were! Two giant amazing whales.

Blog2a
Whale watching with Kenzie

They were beautiful! We sat listening to them and I started speaking whale to them and asking them lots of questions. I'm not sure they really understood me, I think I need more practice.

Blog2b
Kenzie trying to feed me to the whales!

We had so much fun whale watching until Kenzie tried to feed me to the whales!! I think she is jealous that I can speak whale and she cant. Next time I will come whale watching without her.

Maelie turns 3!

Three years ago the RL me was scheduled for surgery and I knew I would have three months of being home resting so I started looking online for games to possibly occupy my time. I came across this "Secondlife" and figured why not give it a try. I rezzed into Secondlife as Ava and met some nice people, enjoyed buying my insanely nooby clothes and tended to my sion chickens.  After a couple weeks of being Ava I stumbled across the kid community in SL and instantly knew that was were I belonged.

So Maelie was born.... wasnt I adorable? I wore this outfit everyday for a week with my insanely hyper AO and it was amazing. Three years later I still wear pink almost every day but now I take baths and change my clothes up to four times.....every hour and my Ao is still pretty hyper. I have met so many wonderful people every single one who have left a mark on my secondlife. Yesterday I got so many messages wishing me a Happy Rez day and once again I was reminded of how loving, caring and simply amazing the people in my second life are, they are my friends, my family not just when I am logged into secondlife but all the time. They are always there when I need a hug, or advice, they make me smile, laugh until I cry and have shown me the true meaning of friendship and family.

Thank you all again for making my secondlife perfect in every way! I love you all so much and you mean the world to me.
